ST. BRENDAN’S ANGLICAN PARISH OF EASTERN MAINE is a small mission serving to provide an Anglican Church of North America presence to coastal Hancock County, Maine. We do this through open Christian hospitality in several ways. In the Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park Region our core mission team not only focuses on providing weekly Sunday services to our core group of year-round residents, but accepts the mission of hospitality by serving visitors and summer residents who frequently are searching for informal worship opportunities. Our base at Olsen Chapel, located on the shore of scenic Bass Harbor, which is a small working fishing harbor on the southwest end of Mount Desert Island, provides the ideal setting. We will actively advertise this opportunity with signage and on the web. We also further this mission by supporting the Franciscan Brothers of St Elizabeth in their hospitality mission in the Bucksport Area buy assisting them in providing worship services and fellowship meals twice a month for those they encounter and invite. Our core group and clergy have integral roles in these services and meals. To this end,We hold principal services weekly at Olsen Chapel, 176 Harbor Drive, Bass Harbor Maine and the First and Third Sundays of the Month at the friary of the Franciscan Brothers of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, 855 Orcutt Mountain Road, Bucksport Maine. In addition, we seek to positively impact the local working community in two unique ways. • In partnership with a local Baptist Church, we reach out to the local fishermen, who are mostly unchurched, seasonally with muffins and coffee on the town dock in the very early hours. In the coming year we hope to have a free food peddler’s cart at several community events. In this way we hope to imbue a positive image of churches and those who attend. • Also St. Brendan’s charters, financially supports, and leads the Island wide Cub Scouting program which is one of the few values based secular child development programs on Mount Desert Island. Through this we emphasize Duty to God, Duty to Community, Patriotism and Duty to the environment around us. Our overseas mission is to support an Anglican Music School at a seminary in Mityana Uganda. Our small monthly fiscal support serves to hire a watchman to protect facilities and instruments. As well, we are sending a team on a short-term mission trip there in December 2020.
